Speech title:In vivo three-photon fluorescence microscopy and its potential application in plant-photonics


Three-photon fluorescence (3PF) is a very typical high-order nonlinear optical effect. 3PF microscopy can dramatically reduce the out-of-focus background in regions far from the focal plane, improving the signal to background ratio (SBR) by orders of magnitude when compared to the commercially available two-photon fluorescence (2PF) microscopy. Thus, 3PF microscopy can improve spatial resolution and imaging contrast, and increase imaging depth effectively. In our previous studies, we have developed a series of three-photon fluorescence intensity and lifetime microscopes. These setups have been employed in cerebral neuron and blood vessel imaging of small animals, as well as non-human primate animals. Recently, our group founds that 3PF microscopy has great potentials for plant-photonics research (e.g. structural and functional imaging of chloroplast), and I would like to share these interesting results in this presentation.

Brief biography:

Jun Qian, Ph.D., is a professor at the School of Optoelectronic Science and Engineering, Zhejiang University, and an adjunct professor at Run Run Run Shaw Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine. Winner of Zhejiang Outstanding Youth Fund. He is currently the Assistant Director of the State Key Laboratory of Modern Optical Instruments, Zhejiang University.

He has been engaged in the research of "large depth light student-object imaging", and in recent years, he has focused on the work of "living multiphoton fluorescence microscopic imaging" and "living near-infrared fluorescence imaging". He has published more than 70 SCI papers, including 49 papers as the first/corresponding author [including 1 Chem summary paper in Cell sub-journal, IF>10 (Advanced Materials, ACS Nano, ACIE, etc.) 10 papers, 5-10 papers 8]. Commun., Nat. Rev. Chem., Chem. Rev., Chem. Soc. Rev., Adv. Mater., etc., he has cited more than 1600 times, and the highest single SCI has cited more than 210 times. Three first/corresponding author papers were selected as "ESI Highly cited Papers", h-INDEX was 25, and one work was selected as "Important Optical Achievements in China 2012". Applied for 14 Chinese invention patents (4 authorized). He has made more than 10 invited reports on academic conferences at home and abroad. He has presided over 5 national Natural Science Foundation of China projects, 973 sub-projects, 863 sub-projects, and participated in one key project of National Natural Science Foundation of China. He has written three chapters of English academic monographs. Optics Letters, Biomedical Optics Express, Advanced Optical Materials, Advanced Functional Materials, Reviewer of Biomaterials, Small, Nanoscale and other high-level academic journals.
